Introduction

Safe Server is how we keep Crafting For Christ a place parents can trust their kids to play, and where every player learns how to stay safe online.

For Parents: The Essentials

Everything you need to decide, on one page.

Who can play

  • Minecraft: There is no minimum age to play on our Minecraft servers.
  • Discord: Our Discord server follows Discord's own terms, which require users to be 13 or older.
  • Your child doesn't need Discord to reach us. The in-game /report command goes straight to our staff on Discord, so a child without a Discord account can still report a problem.

How moderation works

Staff moderate chat and gameplay both in-game and on Discord. Chat logs are kept server-side so staff can check what was actually said.

When a player uses /report, a staff member picks it up:

  • Griefing (damaging or stealing from someone's build): staff log in, inspect what the accused player did, roll the damage back if the report holds, and issue a punishment.
  • Chat offences (swearing, harassment): staff check the chat logs and issue a punishment accordingly.

Our staff and players live across many time zones, so how quickly a report is picked up depends on who is awake. It's usually within a few hours, and sometimes longer overnight.

/report doesn't send an update back to the person who reported. If your child wants to hear back about a report, they can open a support ticket instead.

Voice chat

Voice channels on our Discord are not recorded, and staff are not usually listening in. Please treat voice as unsupervised. Voice is for people who already know each other. If something happens in a voice channel, leave the channel and report it.

How our staff are chosen

  • Every staff member applies and is assessed on their in-game playtime (24 hours minimum), punishment history, recent chat history, reports made against them and by them, and their reputation in the community.
  • All administration staff review the application and vote on it.
  • Applicants then complete a scenario quiz where every answer must be justified, and all administration staff must accept it. This tests judgement, not just reputation.
  • New moderators are trained over Discord voice and start a three-week trial with an administration mentor.
  • A brand-new moderator cannot ban anyone. They start with warn and kick only. Banning and rolling back damage sit with staff who have been vetted twice: once to join, and again at the end of their trial.
  • Reports about a staff member go to administration. Reports about the owner go to an advisory group outside the staff team.
