Mods & Clients

A fair win feels better than an easy one.
Overview: You're welcome to use client mods on our servers. Most of them make Minecraft look nicer or run better, and we have no problem with that at all.
The line we draw is simple: a mod is fine if it changes how the game looks or feels, and not fine if it gives you information or abilities the game never meant you to have.
This page explains where that line sits and what to do about a mod that isn't on either list. It's the long version of the mods and clients rule in our Network Rules.
The Simple Version
Ask yourself one question: does this mod let me do something the game wouldn't normally let me do, or see something it wouldn't normally let me see?
- No — it's almost certainly fine. Nicer textures, a smoother framerate, a tidier HUD, a minimap on Survival.
- Yes — it's almost certainly not. Seeing ores through stone, hitting faster than a human can click, aiming for you, flying.
If you're not sure, ask before you use it. Nobody has ever been punished for asking.
Explicitly Permitted
These are approved for all our Minecraft servers:
- ✅ Optifine — performance and graphics options
- ✅ CaffeineMC (Sodium, Lithium and friends) — performance
- ✅ ArmorStatusHUD / StatusEffectHUD — shows your own armour and effects
- ✅ LabyMod & 5zig — all-in-one client mods
- ✅ Toggle Sneak / Sprint — comfort and accessibility
- ✅ Lunar Client
- ✅ Badlion Client
- ✅ Cosmic Client
- ✅ PvPLounge Client
- ✅ Schematica / Litematica — build planning and blueprints
- ✅ Map mods, including ReplayMod
Lunar, Badlion, Cosmic and PvPLounge all bundle dozens of small mods together. We allow them because their default feature sets stay on the right side of the line. If you switch on a module inside one of them that does something from the prohibited list below, that's still a breach — the client being approved doesn't approve everything inside it.
Explicitly Prohibited
- ❌ X-rays — including texture packs that make blocks transparent
- ❌ Auto-hitters and autoclickers
- ❌ Aimbots and any aim assistance
- ❌ Fly mods
- ❌ VPN clients — unless the Senior Staff Team has granted you an exception
- ❌ Mods or tools used to save worlds (approved map mods are the exception)
Autoclickers, Macros and Scripts
This one catches people out more than any other, so it's worth spelling out.
One button press should cause one action. Anything that turns a single input — or no input at all — into repeated actions isn't allowed. That covers:
- Autoclickers and auto-hitters, whether they're software or a hardware feature of your mouse
- Macro keys that fire a sequence of actions
- Scripts that craft, fish, farm or fight for you
- Wedging something into your keyboard or mouse to hold a button down while you're away
What is fine: holding a key down yourself, toggle sprint and toggle sneak, and anything the game does natively.
Automating fishing or crop farming while you're away from the keyboard is the most common version of this we see. It's still automation, even though nothing is being clicked quickly.
VPNs
VPNs are blocked by default. They're not blocked because we think you're up to something — they're blocked because they're one of the main ways banned players get back in.
If you need one for a genuine reason, such as a school or workplace network that routes everything through a VPN, open a ticket on our Discord and the Senior Staff Team can grant an exception for your account.
A Mod That Isn't on Either List
New mods appear all the time, so neither list will ever be complete. If yours isn't mentioned:
- Run it through the question at the top of this page.
- If you're still unsure, ask before you use it — open a ticket on our Discord or email [email protected].
- Tell us the mod's name and a link to it if you have one. We'll usually come back to you the same day.
Asking first is always treated as good faith. Using something questionable and explaining afterwards is a much harder conversation.
Mixed Server: Extra Restrictions
The Mixed server is competitive, so several mods that are perfectly fine on Survival give too much of an edge there:
- ❌ Inventory sorters
- ❌ Mods that expose or enlarge player name-tags
- ❌ Automatic tool selectors
- ❌ Minimaps
- ❌ Damage / health indicators
- ❌ SmartMoving
- ❌ ElytraKey
Minimaps are the one to watch — allowed on Survival, not on Mixed.
Found an Exploit Instead of a Mod?
If you've stumbled across a glitch in the game or one of our plugins, please don't quietly use it. Report it at craftingforchrist.net/issues or raise a ticket on our Discord.
Reporting an exploit is genuinely appreciated, and it's never held against you.
